Hiking with my dog always makes me feel safer—but today was a reminder of why. We were hiking along and he froze—body tense, ears forward, scanning the woods. I put my phone away to have my hand on my weapon and soon after, I spotted someone way off in the distance in all black sitting on a bench. When they spotted us they took off into the woods. When we got back to the parking lot, there wasn’t another car in sight.
