On Thursday 19 September, Thailand’s Khao Kheow Open Zoo confirmed that 2-month old Moo Deng will be live-streamed 24/7 in the coming week. Videos of Moo Deng taken by her zookeeper, have racked up millions of views on TikTok. And the memes just keep getting better. One fan called Moo Deng a “lifestyle icon”, noting that she is “inexplicably moist at all times”, “slightly blurry in most photos” and “probably screaming or sleeping”. Moo Deng, whose name translates to “bouncy pork”, lives with her mom Jona in the hippo pit. She has two siblings, Moo Tun, meaning stewed pork, and Moo Wan, meaning sweet pork. Moo Deng’s meteoric rise to fame has caused a surge in visitors to the Thailand zoo. But, it’s not all been positive attention. Some videos show visitors splashing water or throwing things at the sleeping Moo Deng to try to wake her up. The zoo’s director released a statement asking visitors not to throw objects at Moo Deng or make loud noises, and that it would take legal action against those who do not behave. He added that the zoo had installed surveillance cameras in the area and a security officer has been appointed to watch over Moo Deng. Ryan Murphy’s new Netflix series has caused a lot of controversy in the few days it’s been available on the streaming platform, and now the real-life inspiration for the show, Erik Menendez, has spoken up about the writer’s depiction of him. Murphy’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story was released on September 19 and viewers have since accused him of glorifying true crime as well as sexualising the brothers’ relationship with each other. Erik has now responded to Murphy, via an online statement, in particularly taking issue with the show’s portrayal of his brother Lyle, calling Murphy out for “creating a caricature of Lyle rooted in horrible and blatant lies rampant in this show”. Posted to his wife Tammi’s X account, Menendez said: “It is with a heavy heart that I say, I believe Ryan Murphy cannot be this naive and inaccurate about the facts of our lives so as to do this without and intent.” “It is sad for me to know that Netflix’s dishonest portrayal of the tragedies surrounding our crime have taken the painful truths several steps backward… Murphy has shaped his horrible narrative through vile and appalling character portrayals of Lyle and of me and disheartening slander.” He also accused the series for reversing the progress we have made when it comes to supporting survivors of trauma and seggsual abuse, especially if they are men. The face of ‘Christian Girl Autumn’, otherwise known as lifestyle blogger Caitlin Covington, is also a trans ally, and donated to the trans X user who created the meme. The ‘Christian Girl Autumn’ meme phenomenon was kickstarted in 2019, when then-Twitter user @blizzy_mcguire (snaps for the name), posted a picture of Covington as the figurehead of the movement in response to Megan Thee Stallion‘s Hot Girl Summer. At the time, @blizzy_mcguire, whose real name is reportedly Natasha, wrote in a now-deleted tweet: “Hot Girl Summer is coming to an end. Get ready for Christian Girl Autumn.” The statement was accompanied by an image of Covington and a friend in large patterned scarves, matching tote bags, leather ankle boots and lots of brunette hair. Natasha was then reportedly contacted by Covington (and friend Emily Gemma), both of whom had a sense of humour about the situation, and has continued to post ‘Christian Girl Autumn’ content ever since – including a meme just days ago. Though many X users assumed Covington had a right-wing stance on politics and religion – including the LGBTQIA+ community – she was kick to clear up any misgivings in the early days of her viral fame. In subsequent posts in 2019, she clarified that she was both a fierce queer ally and not a Republican. Queen. “I’m a daughter, friend, wife, and an expecting mother. Two male flamingos have adopted a chick after successfully hatching an egg together at San Diego Zoo Safari Park in California. Earlier this year, the same-sex bird couple impressed zookeepers with their parenting skills after they were given a dummy egg to sit on. Eventually, the specialists gave them a real egg, which hatched in September and is now “thriving”. In a social media post, the zoo said that the flamingo couple “has perfected their fatherly duties by alternating brooding responsibilities and keeping the chick satisfied thanks to a hearty helping of crop milk every day”. The pair feed their chick crop “milk” from their upper digestive tract, and that “both males and females can feed the chick this way”, even flamingos that are not the parents. The two foster dads are both in their 40s and are lesser flamingos, a species found in sub-Saharan Africa and western India, according to the zoo. The chick is also a lesser flamingo. But this isn’t the first time a same-sex flamingo couple have become parents to an adopted chick. Drew Starkey has explained why he had no hesitation in playing a gay role alongside Daniel Craig in Luca Guadagnino’s latest film, Queer. The film features Knives Out star Craig as William Lee, an outcast American expat in 40s Mexico, who spends his days doing drugs and drinking, and whose life is turned upside down when he becomes infatuated with younger former serviceman Eugene Allerton (Starkey). The pair become very close over the course of the film, getting their kit off and taking a trip to Southern America to sample a hallucinogenic drug. And it’s a role that’s getting Starkey a lot of notice – not least because of the seggs scenes. Speaking exclusively to PinkNews at the London Film Festival, Starkey says that there was, “no, no, no hesitation in the slightest,” about taking the part.
