Want to get up close? Stay on the main deck (first floor)—you’ll be right near the water where humpbacks often surface. That’s where I sat and wow…mesmerizing. If you’re into photography or want that panoramic view, head to the upper deck for an amazing bird’s-eye perspective. 2️⃣ Visit during peak whale season Whale-watching season runs mid-April to October, with June–September offering the best chance to see humpbacks feeding. If whales are the main reason for your trip, plan accordingly (there are so many things to do in Cape Cod)! 3️⃣ Morning or sunset? Morning tours usually mean calmer seas—great for spotting whales. Sunset cruises though? Pure magic…and often less crowded. I did a sunset tour and was completely blown away. 4️⃣ Pack smart Layers are key! Even sunny days get chilly with sea breezes. Bring a light jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses, rubber-soled shoes, and seasickness remedies if needed. 5️⃣ Respect the whales Choose tour companies that follow NOAA/WhaleSENSE guidelines—they shut off engines near whales. Fun fact: sometimes the whales approach the boat on their own! 6️⃣ Book early! Tours fill up fast, especially in summer. Adult tickets start around $75. Living in Mexico has been one of the greatest decisions I’ve ever made. It’s heartbreaking to see families being torn apart, people who have lived their entire lives in the U.S. suddenly treated like strangers, and hardworking individuals forced to leave the only home they’ve ever known. What makes it worse is the hypocrisy. The U.S. thrives off immigrant labor, culture, and innovation—but when it’s politically convenient, those same communities are discarded without compassion or accountability. It’s disturbing to watch people criminalized simply for seeking safety, opportunity, or a better future for their children. Here in Mexico, I’ve met so many people who were deported and are trying to rebuild from scratch in a country they barely know. Some don’t speak the language, some were separated from their children, and many are navigating trauma that no one talks about. Yet, they keep going—with courage and grace. They are not criminals. They are survivors of a broken system. As someone who chose to move abroad and was welcomed with open arms, I can’t help but feel the deep injustice of how unfairly others are treated when they didn’t have a choice. Everyone deserves dignity, safety, and the freedom to dream—no matter where they come from. If you live comfortably in the U.S. and have never had to worry about your legal status, I hope you’re using that privilege to advocate for those who do.
