I found something so interesting while preening Paco's tail feathers. I've never seen this before, have you? If the material was brownish and turned red when water is added, it would indicate that a growing feather had been damaged during development and leaked out fluid. But it's apparent that it is a thicker and perhaps more melanized type of special keratin which is there to support large feathers during growth! Super cool to see. Birds are amazing! #featherpreening #parrotpreening
Now, who left these here?? My first video that made it "big," with over 20M views, was hatching a turtle egg! Did you ever watch that one?? #turtleeggs #eggincubation #egghatching
I genuinely believe Emma, the Goffin's cockatoo, actually wants to scuff her tongue on fhe sanding bit, and she's back for another taste #parrotbeaktrim #birdbeaktrim #goffinscockatoo
Replying to @Popopopopopopopopopob Do parrots really blush? They do, and it's kind of wild! Here's some examples in a blue and gold macaw and African grey parrot
Let's see what Amanda, the blue and gold macaw, can do with some common seeds and nuts. That beak carries some serious force! I'm glad she would rather use it on snacks than me #macawbeak #parrotfeeding
We got some very special fan mail from Australia, and Jake has a lot to say about it! He was rooting for it to be popcorn, but it wasn't. #fanmail #funnyparrot #talkingparrot
Reno, the Quaker parrot, was hatched in June of 2000, so this little dirtbag just turned 25! He is ready to soak up the extra attention and enjoy a spa day with preening, a bath, and a hemp oil beak and foot massage #quakerparrot #elderlypets
Replying to @Marty’sMama🇨🇦 Why doesn't Jake, the African grey parrot, fly away? His flight muscles have shrunk to the point that they are basically useless. But you should never take a bird's lack of an ability to fly for granted - Jake's situation is unique and has proven fully limiting. Accidents can happen quickly. Birds who are not flight trained with full recall should not be allowed outdoors without proper restraint like a suitable travel cage or correct safety restraint such as an Aviator Harness. If you want to learn more about flight training, @fidsoffreedom and @zippthecaique are two of my favorite free-flying accounts #rescueparrot #petbirds #parrotflight
Paco the parrot has been here 6 months, and he sure has come a long way! His strength and determination is an inspiration. Check out his playlist to watch his whole story #pacotheparrot #rescueparrot #mealyamazon
Mr Shelby has some restraint-free beak and nail trimming to show you, and he's saved the best for last with some of his tricks at the end #parrotnailtrim #petbirds #parrotbeaktrim
Jake, the African grey parrot, explores a nature trail and reveals a special feature that has returned - can you guess what it is? Only OG followers may know this one...
Have you ever wondered how to tell apart a blackberry and a raspberry? It's very simple, and Mr Shelby, the Moluccan cockatoo, is ready to show you how! #moluccancockatoo #raspberries #blackberries #foraging
Replying to @Birdie I've MacGyvered my own simple system to keep birds inside while I go in and out of their new aviary. Sonny and Cher, the white bellied caique parrots, are the first ones who get to try it out
