Share this with anyone who plans to attend. 🩵 Create a Pre- and Post-Protest Ritual Pre-protest Ritual (pull from ideas below or make your own): 🔹Check-in (logistics, personal capacity, mindset, physical state). 🔹Orient to your values. 🔹Make a safety plan (physical + psychological). 🔹Pack supplies. 🔹Identify grounding tools or things you can do to manage the experience. Earned my honesty patch. 🥹 @Phineas and Ferb This whole interview had me rolling on the floorrrr. And, yes, to be clear: I'm a certified somatic practitioner with additional certifications across the mental health field. I am not a licensed therapist. At @Movement Genius, we collaborate with incredible licensed therapists and experts, who design the mental health tools in our library and lead our virtual community classes. 😍
Casual reminder that our modern concepts of the gender binary in the USA are not as timeless and divinely authorized as many of us were raised to believe. The concepts largely date back to European colonial ideologies from the 17th and 18th centuries, particularly those influenced by Western Christian and Enlightenment thinking. This means there were numerous other ways of conceiving, upholding, and expressing gender—including within faith communities—over time and across regions (and they weren’t all demonized or weaponized… some were even revered). The colonial frameworks uplifted a rigid, binary view of gender as biologically determined and socially fixed, which aligned and interplayed with broader systems of power and control (see patriarchy, white body supremacy, and capitalism… no, this isn't a political opinion, it's U.S. history. #slavery #womenssuffrage #GildedAge). Before colonization, many Indigenous cultures across North America (and communities around the world), recognized more fluid and diverse understandings of gender, including Two-Spirit identities, which encompass roles outside the binary. Quick aside: it's fascinating when you realize how gender norms have shifted over time, and how opposite sides of a spectrum are used to punish the same group of people, just at different times. For example, men were once considered "manly" and distinguished for wearing skirts, wigs, and makeup. Now, some families would kick out their sons for being caught in a skirt. Anyway, ICYMI: the indigenous and long-standing systems were intentionally suppressed through colonization, missionary work, and U.S. federal policies (like boarding schools), which enforced binary gender roles as part of broader efforts to erase Indigenous identities, assimilate Native peoples, and reduce humans to easily categorizable and controllable citizens. Alrighty, Happy Pride! May we create a world where it’s safe to inhabit all the dimensions of who we are in a way that dignifies, respects, and cares for one another and ourselves. And may we continually examine all the ways we are indoctrinated and shaped by collective myths and temporary constructs. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤
